Course Description:

This course offers two complementary views of cultures and religions of the North Shore: 'respect for diversity' and 'working toward unity'. We select several traditions that played key roles in North Shore history. We begin with a look at Coast Salish and Sto:lo spirituality. We briefly survey Western Christian faith traditions, highlighting liberal Protestantism. We provide an overview of East Indian faith traditions, highlighting Sikhism. We glance at Asian faith traditions, mentioning Buddhist, Confucian and Taoist influences. And we sketch Middle Eastern faith traditions, with some attention to Jewish, Zoroastrian and Islamic influences. This selection of themes will enrich our quest for a more cooperative and unified society.
